Neural misfires from a northern brain

A sort of stream of consciousness of things I collect from t'interweb. Don't expect coherence or anything.
Probably one of my favourite shots from last weekend. Grace, our model, has a fantastic ability to seem fragile and vulnerable (whilst being, as far as I can tell, nothing of the sort) and I was so pleased to have been able to capture that in pixels.

Random shot from my walk today, location scouting in the woods near my house.
The location turned out to be a bit of a bust; too boggy in this weather to be easily accessible with gear, but I took the opportunity to muck about with trying to get texture out of the surroundings using speedlights.
I quite like the painting-like look this lends to the tree bark. It’s straight out of the camera; no adjustments bar colour correction.
Strobist info: Lit from camera left with an SB-900 at 17mm with the dome diffuser, 1/4 power.

Haven’t shot any portraits or uploaded anything for a while, and it’s starting to itch.
Shot this ages ago, the night before the Bert Stephani workshop in London, mucking about with a two-light setup.
The rimlight is a bit too far forward to work properly - maybe it should’ve been gridded - but I like the feel of the image.
Shot in tungsten white balance, with a quarter-cut CTO on the main, which was a Vivtar 285HV through a shoot-through. Rimlight was another Vivitar, bare.

I’m loving this site. It’s a great way to browse Flickr images without having to deal with the Flickr interface, which for pure, good old-fashioned browsing is a bit on the pants side and too full of distractions.

If you’ve half an hour to spare, check it out. You might find something you like.
